چکیده

Originally described by Eisendrath in 1925, extrarenal calyces (ERC) are a very rare upper tract anomaly, with approximately 50 cases reported in the world literature, including this one (20%< 17 years).1 This malformation usually consists of a discoid kidney with the major calyces and the renal pelvis located outside the renal parenchyma, and it has been associated with other renal anomalies, such as ectopic kidney and renal dysplasia.1,2 Because of this rareness, we present the case of a female patient with severe right hydronephrosis and extrarenal calyces. The radiologic studies didn't revealed the exact diagnosis, but it was an intraoperative finding.

Bilateral extrarenal calyces, renal pelvis and associated variations of renal vessels – A rare variation of the renal collecting system

Introduction Bilateral extrarenal calyces, which are characterized by calyces and renal pelvis that lie outside the renal parenchyma, associated with variations of renal vessels is one of the rare anomalies of the collecting system. This variant may be associated with other variations of the urogenital system, like bifid kidney, ectopic kidney, horseshoe kidney and renal dysplasia. This could b...

Horseshoe kidney with extrarenal calyces and malformed renal vessels

The horseshoe kidney is a congenital fusion anomaly where both kidneys are fused at the lower poles. We report a case of horseshoe kidney in a 70 year-old Thai cadaver. This horseshoe kidney was associated with malformations of renal hila, sinuses, calyces and supernumerary arterial supplies from the dorsal part of the kidney. To our knowledge, the arterial supply to the horseshoe kidney from t...

Extrarenal pelvis mimicking hydronephrosis: a case for caution

Extrarenal pelvis is an anatomical variant that appears as a large hypoechoic mass just outside the renal sinus and can be confused with hydronephrosis, especially on a point-of-care renal ultrasound. Unlike hydronephrosis, it is not associated with dilated calyces, parenchymal thinning, hydroureter, or enlarged kidney per se.

Distal Renal Tubular Acidosis with Grade 4 Vesicoureteral Reflux in a Child with Single Kidney

Introduction Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a non-uremic defects of urinary acidification. It is characterized by a normal anion gap hyperchloremic  metabolic acidosis; plasma potassium may be normal, low or high-depending on the type of RTA. These syndromes differ from uremic acidosis which is associated with a high anion gap, decreased glomerular filtration with enhanced proton secretion b...
